Iddingsite is a microcrystalline rock that forms when olivine is altered through oxidation, hydrothermal, and deuteric processes. It's a pseudomorph, which means that the olivine's internal structure and chemical composition change during the alteration process, but its external form is preserved. Iddingsite is a complex of water, clay, and iron oxides, and it usually appears as a reddish-brown replacement of olivine. It's commonly found in nakhlites, and it's ubiquitous there as a product of hydrous alteration of olivine.
