Rainbow Carborundum (Silicon Carbide) – Rough Raw Natural
Electric blues, purples, greens, golds, and rainbow flashes make Carborundum look like something that fell out of another dimension. Also called Silicon Carbide, these rough specimens feature brilliant iridescent crystal formations that shift in color as the light moves across their surface.
Unlike naturally occurring crystals such as Quartz or Amethyst, the colorful Carborundum specimens commonly sold in crystal shops are typically man-made Silicon Carbide created through a high-temperature industrial process. We think that makes them even more interesting—not everything beautiful has to pretend it was dug straight out of the Earth.
Energetically, Rainbow Carborundum is associated with all chakras due to its spectrum of colors. It supports vitality, creativity, confidence, motivation, mental clarity, personal transformation, and breaking through stagnant energy.
Mentally and emotionally, Carborundum carries a strong, uplifting energy that supports optimism, resilience, and forward movement. It is an excellent piece for periods when you feel stuck, uninspired, or tired of repeating the same patterns without making meaningful changes.
Spiritually, its rainbow coloring makes it useful for chakra work, meditation, manifestation, visualization, and energetic alignment. Carborundum encourages expansion and reminds you that transformation can sometimes require heat, pressure, and circumstances that initially feel uncomfortable.
For physical wellness, Carborundum can be incorporated into crystal practices with the intention of supporting vitality, stamina, energetic balance, and overall well-being.
These specimens are left rough and raw to showcase their dramatic crystalline formations and metallic rainbow luster. Each piece will vary considerably in size, shape, crystal formation, texture, coloring, and iridescence. Depending on the lighting and viewing angle, completely different colors may become visible.
Carborundum can have sharp crystal edges, so handle rough specimens carefully and keep them where children and pets cannot accidentally grab or step on them. Avoid creating or inhaling dust from the material, and wash your hands after extensive handling of rough specimens.
Each Rainbow Carborundum specimen is ethically sourced and includes an informational card explaining its properties and uses.
If you're going through a little heat and pressure yourself, Carborundum makes a pretty spectacular reminder of what can come out the other side. Keep it nearby for creativity, motivation, transformation, vitality, chakra work, and the reminder that sometimes becoming something new isn't a particularly gentle process—but the results can be incredible.
